Contour Threads™

What are Contour Threads?
Contour Threads are the use of a barbed suture to support soft tissues as a synergistic component of minimally invasive treatment of the aging face.

About the threads
Patented barbed threads are used in the Contour Threads procedure. These polypropylene sutures, popularly used in plastic and reconstructive surgery, are used to elevate and reposition sagging skin to enhance and/or restore a patient’s facial features and appearance.

About the procedure
The Contour Threads procedure is safe, quick and an easy procedure to perform. During the procedure the patient remains awake and alert. Local anesthesia is used. If desired, light IV sedation can be administered to the patient to provide more comfort. The procedure is less invasive than a face lift with a faster recovery rate, no general anesthesia required, no scarring, offers minimal discomfort, delivering uniform gathering and even lifting of the soft tissues within a reduced procedure time. USUALLY ONE HOUR OR LESS (maximum one hour).

Ideal Candidates
Most of these candidates fall into the 35 to 55 age range. It can be utilized for men (great for brows) and for women. Subcutaneous fat from the cheek area tends to droop with age, creating the characteristic grooves around the eyelid and also a buildup of soft tissue around the melolabial fold (“nasolabial fold”). The zygomatic bone becomes loosely suspended from under the soft tissues of the area which age. Because of this, gravitational sagging of these areas occur; the lachrymal groves appear, the nasolabial fold deepens and wrinkles start becoming evident. The Contour Threads procedure can be done to correct these aging changes and imperfections.

Those who experience mild to moderate ptosis of the soft tissues of the infraorbital, zygomatic, buccal, mental and submental areas as well as premature aging and sun damage, weakly pronounced aesthetic contours and flaccid flat face and opt away from facelifts surgery are the best candidates for Contour Threads.

Insertion Tips

  1. Avoid being too close to the skin surface, nor too deep
  2. Must penetrate almost perpendicular at entrance and exit sites
  3. Should be relatively deeper in the mid face
  4. Should be below the malar fat pad
  5. Should be more superficial in the temporal and exit areas

Potential Complications
Static vs dynamic deformities, thread failure, migration, exposure, palpable threads and analgesia may occur.
